Two-Day International Conference on Indo-US Relations and South Asia

India and United States have a long history of relationship, sharing common concerns and having strategic interest in each other as per geopolitics. Moreover, they are indispensable economic partners of each other and therefore, such relations bring in an inevitable aspect and that is, South Asia. In the light of aforementioned aspects, Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab (RGNUL) has joined hands with the American Embassy, New Delhi, to deliberate upon Indo-US relations and their effect on South Asia in order to explore the future of Indo-US relations and to come up with suggestions for the policy makers of both the countries to enhance the partnership and to bring South Asia in the limelight.
About the conference
The two day conference, on the theme ‘Indo-US Relations and South Asia’, scheduled on 29-30 October, 2014 at RGNUL, would explore the needs of South Asia and how the partnership between India and US may benefit the role of India as a leader of the region and further role of the region as a global actor. In the deliberations during the Conference, special emphasis would be laid on the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) as compared to the Organization of American States (OAS), India roll as a leader in South Asia and the response of US. On the last day of the Conference a South Asian Human Rights Initiative would be adopted and published on the website of RGNUL.
The conference will have four technical sessions on the following sub-themes.
  1. Indo-US Relations: Legal and Political Perspective
  2. Indo-US Relations: Economic Perspective (with reference to Trade Policies and Laws, IPR etc.)
  3. Indo-US Relations: Global and Regional Strategic Perspective
  4. South Asia, SAARC and Human Rights Initiative: Politico-Legal Lessons from the OAS.
Research papers on or related to above mentioned topics are invited from Academicians, activists, Research Scholars and Lawyers. The conference will have parallel web-conferencing available to selected presenters.
Submission deadline
A 500 word Abstract of the paper is to be submitted by 10th July, 2014 at along with duly filled registration form available at the university website. Acceptance of the Abstracts would be notified within fourteen days of submission of abstract.
