Call for Papers : International Conference on Corporate Social Responsibility

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) differs from place to place, from industry to industry and over time. It is increasingly accepted that in order to define precisely what social responsibility means to a company it needs to engage with its stakeholders and take into account their needs and aspirations while designing CSR strategies and programmes. It is difficult to define CSR precisely because it will always have a location-specific context. The world business Council for Sustainable Development defines CSR thus: “Corporate Social Responsibility is the continuing commitment by business to behave ethically and contribute to economic development while improving the quality of life of the workforce and their families as well as of the local community and society at large.” CSR is the commitment of companies towards the community on voluntary basis to manage its roles as producer, employer, customer, marketer and citizen. The long-term sustainability has become the main objective of CSR. In India, the concept of CSR is not a new concept but it existed from the Kautilya period. Even, Gandhiji also recognized the concept of CSR with the view of Sarvodaya and emphasized on need of taking social responsibility towards the disadvantage groups irrespective of caste, colour, and creed. Initially the conceptualization of CSR was based on the philanthropic approach but however due to the influence of post-liberalization philanthropy model has shifted to the stakeholder participation model.
