Background of the Proposed Title
Nature is dynamic entity, i.e. never the same, that changes, the adapts, that involves; an equilibrium that remains in essence, unchanged because it always accommodates evolution and diversity. Ever since the advent of man upon this planet he has remained in communion with nature. Every human society in the past developed a set of beliefs about nature and adjusted itself to its natural surroundings. These universal and ancient concern about nature included attempts to find order and the role of humanity in nature. In India, which has a treasure of natural forests, grasslands and wildlife in the past, the people has a respect to preserve them so far so that the great ashrams and the universities of our saints and preachers were mostly established in the forests. So that the ecological law’s of nature would be clearly understood by both the teacher and disciple. The ancient scriptures are full saying, justifying the need of survival and preservation of all life forms. The environmental consciousness shown by king Ashoka, the traditions being followed by the Bishnoi culture of Rajasthan and the commitment reflected in the Chipko movement are the all examples of a heightened awareness of the common man as regards environmental preservation. However, the environmental consciousness of the people is often marred by their poverty and basic needs of survival. Their day to day needs of fuel have led to cutting of forests. Today, it is paradox to see that love and regards for forests and wildlife are fast disappearing probably on account of the demographic pressure upon land and the need for greater basic land resources. It is no wonder to find some species of plants have been destroyed by man and vegetal cover has been reduced to minimal proportion. The country’s resources have been husbanded at the cost of disharmony with nature and this has threatened the very existence of man. There is urgent need to discuss the problems related to environmental resources and their conservation so that they can besustainably managed.
