ABOUT THE ISSUE:
This special issue examines the diverse problems that people with disability face in the context of human rights, provides insights in new developments on important issues relating human rights to disability, and features new approaches and solutions to vital problems in the current debate.

GUEST EDITORS: John-Stewart Gordon (University of Cologne) and Jerome Bickenbach (Queen’s University Kingston, University of Lucerne).
CALL FOR PAPERS:
The issue will contain both invited and submitted papers which will be published in The Journal of Law, Medicine & Ethics.
TOPICS FOR DISCUSSION (Illustrative):
- Human rights and disability
- The concept of disability
- The International Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities
- Disability and political participation
- The right to work and disability (equality of opportunity)
- Disability and health care (just distribution of health care resources)
- The right to life and the fetus with disability (e.g. euthanasia, liberal eugenics, creating “deaf children”)
- The right to have sex, procreation, and disability
- Education and people with disability (e.g. inclusion, exclusion, right to education)
- Individual informed consent, mental disability, and the right to refuse treatment
- The elderly and disability (right of self-determination)
- Mobility, access to public buildings, and the right of freedom of movement
- Human rights, capability approach, and disability
- Public accommodation and people with disability
- Sexual exploitation of women/men with (mental) disability
HOW TO SUBMIT:
Please submit your articles to the guest editor by email to: jgordon@uni-koeln.de. Upon submission authors should include full contact details and a few lines of biographical information in a separate file.
NOTE: All authors will be informed about the decision regarding their articles during the first week of May 2013.
